Feeding Guide
Small portions, clean delivery, zero waste.
  • Start micro-portions 1–2×/day; pause 2–3 min between tiny doses.
  • If food drifts away from the fish for >1 second—or goes into the filter, settles on the substrate, clouds the water, or hides behind décor—you fed too much or too fast.
  • Food must go in the mouth—nowhere else. Watch each fish and ensure it actually eats.
  • Turn down/briefly pause high flow during feeding; target-feed shy fish; remove leftovers in 5–10 min.
  • Rotate foods (frozen, quality pellets, seaweed). Thaw frozen and add in pinches—don’t dump cubes.
  • New/shy fish: dim lights, feed multiple spots, consider a feeding ring to contain floating food.

Match temp/salinity, go slow, keep lights low.

Method A: Float & Add (standard).

  1. Float sealed bag 15–20 min to match temperature.
  2. Open bag; add ~½ cup tank water every 5–10 min for 30–45 min.
  3. Aim salinity within ~0.001 SG of tank.
  4. Net/cup transfer the fish—never pour bag water into the tank.
  5. Dim lights; secure lid for jumpers.

Method B: Drip (option).

  1. Start siphon with airline; 2–4 drops/sec into the bag/bucket.
  2. Drip 45–60 min (about double the volume), then discard bag water.
  3. Net/cup transfer; lights low, lid on.

Corals & inverts: Prefer drip 45–60 min; keep temp stable, avoid harsh light shocks.

Fast breathing, white spots/fuzz, flashing, clamped fins, not eating.

  1. If you notice even minor signs, call our emergency line or office right away for guidance.
  2. Check water & equipment; isolate only if advised.
  3. Use the claim form only for losses within the coverage window.

Between visits, daily husbandry keeps livestock healthy.

  • Equipment & water: verify heater temp, pumps/filters running, moving water & bubbles (aeration).
  • Fish check: normal behavior/breathing; eating normally; no new damage.
  • Feeding: small, observed feedings; remove leftovers; lid secured for jumpers.
  • Top-off as directed; keep salt creep and intakes clear.
    No service can replace good day-to-day husbandry.

  • FishGuys Members: Fish/Inverts 5 days, Corals 10 days (weekly plans: windows double).
  • Pay-As-You-Go Clients (one-time service): 48-hour live-arrival (FishGuys standard test included at the visit).
  • Delivery Clients (drop-off): 48-hour live-arrival only if you purchased the Test/Acclimation Add-On at delivery.
    li>FishGuys Test Records (no upload needed): We use our own service records for pH, KH (alkalinity), Salinity/SG and a quick visual tank-health check (clarity, behavior, equipment running).
  • If visuals suggest an issue, we may do additional tests or let you know the guarantee will not be applicable.
  • We also review our service notes/video/photos. If you’d like a short summary of what we reviewed, just ask and we’ll share it.
  • If aggression was noted at placement (our tech’s notes/video) or we can clearly see tankmate damage despite utilizing industry-accepted compatibility standards, the guarantee doesn’t apply.
  • We’ll still share helpful stocking tips and options.
  • Non-QT fish = fish you bought elsewhere (store/online/private) without getting prior approval to possibly keep in effect your guarantee (your choice)
  • That’s the same as “outside fish.” We only trust our own quarantine in terms of upholding our guarantee for fish you already purchased through us.
  • Adding non-QT/outside fish places a 90-day hold on guarantee coverage due to disease-transfer risk.
  • Aggression recorded at placement or clear tankmate aggression
  • Open-top/canopy jumpers
  • Equipment failure/power outage
  • Delicate/Special Orders (marked “D/SO” on line item)
  • Non-QT/outside fish purchased within the last 90 days (without prior approval)
  • Any Fish/Coral when invoices >10 days overdue
  • One replacement or credit per item (replacements aren’t re-covered).
  • If the exact specimen isn’t available, we’ll provide a similar specimen or credit.
  • Delivery orders: approved replacements are added to the next route in your area.
  • Coverage applies only to livestock sold/delivered by The FishGuys LLC.
